Oh hello, Autumn. There you are.

Over the past few days there has been a noticeable shift from Summer to Autumn… Grey clouds have made a few appearances, the heavens have opened once or twice (and both times I have been caught out without an umbrella) and there is definitely the beginnings of an Autumnal carpet of golden leaves around my neighbourhood in London…

I’ve slowly been exploring different corners of Walthamstow, where I moved just over a month ago. There is so much still to uncover, but one of my favourite discoveries so far is this beautiful ‘Ancient House’ – a 15th-century timber-framed “hall house” on the corner of Orford Road and Church Road in Walthamstow Village, just around the corner from where I live. I actually have to pinch myself that I can now call this home…

Nearby are almshouses dating from the 16th and 18th centuries and a “Vestry House”, which has been used as a workhouse and a police station, but since 1931 it has been home a to a museum where you can learn all about the history of Waltham Forest…

Wrapping up in cosy threads and strolling the streets with only my thoughts, a coffee and a podcast or two to keep me company is such a treat. There’s something wonderful about being all tucked in that feels unfamiliar after a long Summer of flip flops and loose cotton… but I have very quickly adapted to tights and cardigans and look forward to many hot chocolates in cafes with the leaves falling down around me and the promise of Christmas on the horizon…

I should have brought an umbrella…!

A gilet makes a surprisingly good shield from the rain…

There hasn’t been a call for a coat yet, but my gilet is a very happy inbetweeny item, which will keep me warm until I need to bring the big guns out. And when I say guns, I mean coats. I don’t mean guns. That would be awkward.

I feel so lucky to have landed somewhere so beautiful, with such wonderful history and with such a warm welcoming community… I’m loving exploring this corner of North East London and I can’t wait to see what I discover next.

It really looks lovely up there, it’s always exciting when you discover a new part of London that you fall in love with. I was renting for years in West London before eventually taking the plunge and moving down to SE London and I’d never go back now. The cosy clothes look so fab X
