On the 4th day of December I opened the door to the land of brunch heaven – Mercante; an authentic Italian restaurant that serves up a bottomless brunch on a Sunday, with eggs fluffier than Bagpuss and unlimited Prosecco. That’s unlimited.
As in, no limits.
Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Mercante is an ideal place for bringing friends and family together – a gorgeously rustic Italian breakfast is served with a variety of cold cuts and cheeses, warm freshly baked bread, fruit, cereals and pastries… and on Sunday you can indulge in their bottomless brunch, hole up with the Sunday papers and never, EVER leave. (Ever).
The menu has been created by the very clever Head Chef – Davide D’ignazio, a young Italian talent who draws on his experience in some of the world’s best restaurants to create dishes that celebrate his home country. He has brought together a range of dishes and flavours that represent the distinct regions and traditions of Italian cuisine… very very special stuff.
The focus on creating an authentic Italian dining experience is seen not only in Mercante’s hand-prepared menu, but the history of the great Italian ‘Mercantes’ (merchants/traders) and italian produce such as carciofo, pomodoro and puntarella, are also illustrated on the walls. The centrepiece is this intricate hand-drawn map of Italy that spans an entire wall, which I couldn’t take my eyes off…
Mercante is the ideal spot for brunching and catching up with friends – the food is absolutely delicious, the sunlight pours in while you sip your Prosecco… and to be just over the road from Green Park in Mayfair, means the location couldn’t be more ideal.
My bottomless brunch at Mercante made for the perfect start to my Sunday, leaving me full of beans (and eggs) for my Christmas frock shopping later that day over on Duke Street.
Mayfair door number five is just around the corner…
p.s. For the month of December, use the code 12DOORSOFMAYFAIR when booking your bottomless brunch in Mercante and enjoy a complimentary champagne upgrade!
